What is Rehabilitation Counselling?

Rehabilitation counselling is a specialised form of counselling that supports people experiencing disability, injury, illness, neurodivergence, psychosocial disability, or changes in daily functioning.

It takes a whole-person approach, considering emotional wellbeing, independence, routines, relationships, education, employment, community participation, and quality of life. Rehabilitation counselling is practical, strengths-based and goal-focused.

This type of support may be helpful for people with autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, acquired and traumatic brain injuries, chronic health conditions, mental health challenges, developmental concerns, or changes following injury, trauma or illness.

Rehabilitation counselling can assist with developing coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, routines, confidence, independence, social skills, problem-solving skills, and participation in home, school, work and community life.

Rehabilitation counselling aims to support functional capacity, independence, adjustment, skill development, and participation across daily living, education, employment, social and community settings.

At Stronger Minds, rehabilitation counselling is provided by Hayley, a qualified rehabilitation counsellor, and may be recommended where this approach is suited to the client’s presentation, goals and support needs.
